My husband sure has had a great week. We just came off of our weekend getaway, which was wonderful. Then, the Boston Celtics (his favorite NBA team of all time) won the play-offs between them and the Lakers breaking a 22-year drought for the Celtics (can you tell I learned way more than I wanted to). To say he was excited was an understatement. He kept talking about it even the next day.
Then, as if that wasn't enough, his favorite band of all time, Boston (seeing a theme, here?), is back on tour and he (at the last minute) and his brother are going to two shows. Right now, he is probably on the front row singing his heart out to "Don't Look Back." As a matter of fact, I just checked my voice mail and he evidently is holding up his phone so I can hear the National Anthem (a rock-n-roll version via electric guitar). So funny!
I wish I could put into words how much Derek loves him some Boston. I tell him all the time he was born in the wrong era. Boston was at the height of their popularity in the 70's. They weren't popular when we were teenagers except for that song, "Amanda." I had no idea who they were when we started dating and he would rock it out in his car. His brother, David, is equally nuts over Boston.
I am happy Derek was able to go to a few shows with his brother. The last time Boston toured, Derek was scheduled to go, and then we got Evan's autism diagnosis. I was so distraught, that Derek couldn't/didn't leave me. Then, about a year ago, the lead singer passed away, so I was sad that he probably missed his last chance to see them live.
HOWEVER, they evidently found their new lead singer from a "My Space" page where a guy was singing the band's songs with a karaoke machine (I am not kidding). I'm not sure if this little guy still works at Home Depot or not (still not kidding). If you have a secret talent, get a "My Space" page, and you might get discovered. Derek informed me it also worked for another guy who is now the lead singer for "Journey." Remember them?

The "new" Boston.
The lucky little Home Depot guy is the third from the left. My brother-in-law has become friends with the bass player (who also happens to be a cute girl) in the band. And, Derek has the same gold "Les Paul" guitar, which has played many Boston tunes he has taught himself (and REALLY good I might add).

Rock on, Horton boys, rock on!

Oh, the memories! I remember "Boston" & "Journey," but more in the '80's than '70's. I'm glad your man got to see their show!
How fun for Derek!!
I'm back from my trip and trying to catch up with blogs! I think we even drove through your town!! :)
I LOVE your new curtains!! What a pain to get them up, but they look wonderful!!
How cool!! I love the Boston theme. I have to ask....does your husband like Boston Baked Bean candy and Boston Red Sox? :)
I missed your new curtains. I need to go back and review your blog.
I loved the curtains!!!! The color is beautiful!! I didn't realize I had missed a post!
Well, it DOES sound like he's had a great week!
That's so funny that Derek loves Boston so much. ha! I'm glad he got to go see them.
Nobody believes me when I tell them this but when I was in the 8th-9th grades - I was obsessed with the celtics. My room was wallpapered with Larry Bird. SO NOT KIDDING!
I have to admit I'm a Boston fan, too. I still know most of the words to their songs. I think that is great he gets to go see them in concert!
How fun for him! So glad he got to go and enjoy something he likes so much!
Derek should put a song on YTube and maybe Boston would add him too!
By the way, does Derek sing??
I'm holding up my lighter and swaying as we speak. Yay for Derek!
That made me laugh out loud! I hope he has the best time! and yes Myspace is obviously a great spring board. Maybe we should start a girls band and see if we can be the next Go Go's! ha! Rock On Derek! Rock ON!
Oh my goodness, that is hysterical! How fun!!!
Your husband would have fun hanging out with Steve. He is a HUGE Boston fan and we listened to alot of it during our dating years. It brings back so many memories when he puts that CD on in the car. And we love Journey, too! Those were all the songs we listened to back in the day. haha I'm showing my age now.
Anyway...the new Boston lead singer is from Charlotte! Steve was just telling me about that a few days ago! He's a little guy isn't he?
Also, I'm going to send you my chicken salad recipe. I've just been gone and haven't had a chance to yet. But we're back now so I'll send it asap! :)
This is too funny!
My Dad was excited about the Celtics, too. I didn't even know he liked them, but he said he saved the game on Tivo and watched it again the next night.
This is so sweet! I love a man who has a LOVE for music!!!
