It has been a busy last couple of days.
Thursday was the last day of school. Since we just found out where Evan was going to school, I called last minute on Wednesday to see if we could come visit with the teacher. She was happy for us to stop by. We got to see Evan's new classroom and meet both of his teachers. I have to admit when we started this placement process, I was scared to death! I'm sure for all mothers there is an anxiousness that just comes with sending your baby off to "big school," but when you put special needs in the mix, there is just a lot more panic that has surfaced in me.
I am SO excited about Evan's new school. I think it is going to be a great transition for him. The teacher was super sweet and we also got to meet the speech therapist (who amazingly we already knew from when she worked at Evan's current school) and the occupational therapist. Even though it was the last day of school, none of them seemed to be in a hurry. They took their time with us and answered all of our questions. They were even gracious enough to let me take their pictures and pictures of the classroom so I could show them to Evan this summer so he can start getting used to the idea of a new teacher and a new room. The teacher even invited Evan to come up a couple of times before school starts while she is setting up the room to get used to it. I really feel like he is going to be in a caring, educational environment. I didn't realize this placement was an option for Evan, and I know the Lord provided this class for him. I am so thankful.
Today we took Ella Grace for her 18 month checkup. She is actually 19 months, but our pediatrician was backed up and couldn't get her in until now. She weighed in at 23 lbs. (25th percentile) and 33.5 inches long (90th percentile). It looks like she is going to be thin like Daddy and tall like me. Her checkup when great and her doctor said, "She's perfect." We kind of thought so already! :)
After the doctor visit, we went to Burge's for lunch. They are well know for their smoked turkeys and hams, but they have a restaurant and serve very yummy food. We had turkey salad sandwiches, fries, and a fried apple pie. I hate to think of the calories, but it was so good that I think it was worth every one of them!
Then, we went to pick Evan up from school early. We had decided we would take him swimming if it wasn't raining. I did not have my camera, and I hate that because his face was priceless when we told him he was going swimming. He was such a happy boy, as he exclaimed, "Oh, let's go swimming!" We spent the afternoon with my sister, Millicent, and my nephew, Stone, swimming, talking, laughing, and enjoying the day! Evan and Ella Grace had the BEST time. Thanks, Aunt Mill, for a great afternoon!

Glad Ella Grace's check-up went great. :)
Burge's? That brings back memories. I'm sure it is not the same one, but we used to stop there on the way to Lake Degray everytime we went when I was growing up! YUM!!
Your sister and nephew look so sweet!!
STone and Evan look a lot alike!
and Milicent is cute - she should be on here more often!
And I'm so happy about Evan's school. It really sounds like an answer to prayer - I will pray Evan has the BEST year.
It really sounds like Evan is going to be in a great place at his new school! I am SO glad - I know that helps when it comes to sending your baby off to "big" school! Swimming is the best - you're such a great mom! You can tell Stone and Evan are related, they have similar features - how cute! Sounds like a great day!!!
I know you are so PUMPED about Evan's teachers and therapists! That is awesome! The pictures were a great idea.
I LOVE Burge's turkey salad sandwiches! When someone told me about them several years ago, I was not sure...but they are so YUMMY! Love the grilled bread!
Tell Millicent and Stone that Amy and Luke said Hi!

Evan's teacher sounds so nice! I know that puts your mind at ease a little bit to get to meet her and know he's in a loving environment!
Is Millicent the sister that is so good with decorating? Her little boy is so cute! He looks like Evan!
Thank you so much for your sweet comment!
I am so glad that everything went well visiting Evan's new school! Praise the Lord for providing and working out every detail with the placement. I will pray that he has a wonderful year and learns so much! He will be such a blessing to those around him!
That lunch sounds absolutely delicious! We went swimming too - we took our niece Emma again and had so much fun! It's too hot to do anything else!
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
I'm really excited for y'all about E's school placement--it sounds like the Lord has the perfect place for him next fall...what a blessing! And another blessing--EG's great report at her check-up. Sounds silly, but I'm always a little emotional before & after the check-ups. The kids' health is something I try to never take for granted. I know so many people face such serious, scary things with their kids, so I'm always thankful when their check-ups go perfectly. That's cute that E was so excited about going swimming...we hope to take the kids tomorrow. Has he had swim lessons yet? R is doing great--it's really been fun to see his swim improvement this spring.
Stone and Evan look so much alike. I just love your blog! I know what a peace it is to finally decide where your child will go to school. Alise will be starting PreK-3 at a local Catholic school this fall (even though we're not Catholic - it's just for one year). About 9 months ago, I was worried sick about where she was going (because she has to leave her current day school at the end of summer) and I just prayed about it. But when I walked through the doors at JGS for a tour with the principal, I had this overwhelming peace that this (school) was where Alise needed to be. Sounds like it's the same kinda thing you went through with visiting Evan's new classroom and teacher. Hugs!
I am so glad that you and Evan got to visit his new school. I will be praying for you and your family this summer. Also, that Evan will have an easy transition this fall for school. You and your family are a blessing and encouragement to us all! Have a great week!
Kara Prov. 3:5-6

So much to be thankful for!
I know that you are so relieved that Evan will be in a caring, educational environment next year ;)! That really was so nice of his teachers to stay around for awhile!!!!
EG sounds just like V when it comes to tall and skinny. I promise he eats all of the time...
I am so glad that Evan got to go swimming! YOU ARE THE BEST MOM!!!!
