This week has been like a whirlwind! It has been busy and stressful, so I decided I would use the gift certificate Derek gave me for our anniversary and cash in my pedicure. It was really a relaxing experience. The salon has a private room, so I was the only one in there. I really wish I would have picked a different color. You know, sometimes it's just hard to tell from the bottle. This color ended up really dark and I'm more of a pink kind of girl. Nonetheless, I enjoyed myself, especially at the end where she poured wax from a soy candle and rubbed on my feet and legs. That was wonderful. However, I don't really recommend going to the mall after you've had your feet rubbed down with wax. It makes walking in sandals a bit challenging! I'm sure people were wondering what was wrong with me as I tried to walk without losing my sandals!
I went to the mall to shop at Gymboree, my favorite children's store, to cash in my Gymbucks. I got Ella Grace two new outfits and got Evan a jacket for Fall long with the rest of his uniform clothes and several shirts for Fall. I got a REALLY good deal. I got all of that and wasn't out much money at all, and for Gymboree that is good!
I had just enough time after that to pick up lunch for Derek and me (he had stayed home with EG), and then I was off to take Evan to a doctor's appointment. We were there FOREVER. Really, we were there for three hours and probably two and a half of that was waiting. It was terrible. Evan was a real trooper though, and thank goodness the office had just gotten new fish tanks. That saved the day!
Evan checking out the fish tank.
Then, after all of that, I had just enough time to get home and get ready for Girls Night Out, one of my favorite nights of each month. We had plans to go to one of the newest restaurants here, but it was packed, so we went to another restaurant that is also very good. The food was wonderful, but I enjoyed the company more. I laughed so much...I always do with them. Oh, how I needed it!
After dinner, we went to see Mama Mia. It was really a cute movie. However, I think we all agreed that we rather see Pierce Bronson as 007 rather than singing in a musical. He was still pretty to look at though. :)This is me and Tina in the movie theater. Tina was my very best friend in high school. There really isn't a memory of high school that I have that doesn't have her in it.
Derek had drill this weekend, so I was busy here at the house by myself trying to keep Evan and Ella Grace entertained. Saturday night our church was having the "soft opening" of our new campus. It was so beautiful and there were SO many people there. I am so excited about the opportunities that are going to be there for Evan and Ella Grace as they learn to love Jesus. I am also excited about the possibility of a special needs ministry there. I am going to start praying now for how I can help. Being a leader is definitely not my thing, but I can follow directions well and of course loving on the kids is the easy part. For so long, we have had such a hard time knowing what to do with Evan at church. Our new church instantly paired him up with a buddy, who just happened to be a speech therapist, who also just happened to be someone I already knew! That was such a relief! There is definitely a need for a special needs ministry. I know we can't be the only parents out there that have struggled with finding a church home that will also minister to our special needs child. I'm ready to dive in and serve.
Sunday we played while Derek was at drill, and then, while he was on his way home, our power went out. It seems to goes out a lot! Urgh! It was 103 degrees, so the house heated up REALLY quickly. We went out to dinner to return home to power. It was only on for about an hour and then it was off again until about 10:30. It is so frustrating. As difficult as it was for us, I couldn't help but think about all of the neighbors around ue that have newborns and had no way to warm a bottle, plus the heat! I can't imagine how miserable they must have been. I sure take AC for granted!
What a week! Here's to what I hope is a more relaxing one! I hope you are off to a great week, too!

Sounds like you had a busy, busy weekend! Cortney loves to shop at Gymboree too! They do have the cutest things. Looks like you and the girlies had a fun night out. What restaurant did you go too? I'm with you on Pierce, he is totally a "007" kinda guy. Have a wonderful week!
WOW! I am going to start "preaching" to you...relax ;)! I knew this week was going to be a busy one, but I am glad you survived it!!! You absolutely deserved that pedicure!!!
I need to go cash in my Gymbucks! We have The Avenue here in the Boro and it has Carters, Osh Kosh, Gymboree, and Children's Place right in row. My wallet can't handle it!
NOW FOR MY COMPLAINING...your weekend sounded perfect except you needed to insert Meag, La, and I at girlz night! We can't wait to see you sweetness!!!!
p.s. I will be praying for Evan and for you concerning the ministry!
oh my goodness! I was reading one of your older posts and just realized that your hubby is a helicopter pilot! yay! My dad was a helicopter pilot for the National Guard forever! He flew blackhawks as well. He just retired in January of this year. He had 30 some odd years behind him. He was a CW5. Which branch does your husband fly for?
Hey beautiful! You were sure were busy this weekend! I love that you had a girls night - those are always fabulous! I am quite certain we will enjoy a girls night, or weekend, or trip... (yay) in the future!!!! I think me, Moo, and La are going to see Mama Mia next Wednesday, I can't wait so I am glad to hear you enjoyed it! Thanks for filling us in on the need for a special needs ministry - I'll be praying for you and your family (as always) and I will add the ministry need to my list as well!!!! Countdown to September - it's getting closer! We need to start working on plans like accomodations, how long your visit will be, what you and Derek want to do, etc.! I am so excited!!!!

I have thought about a special needs ministry a LOT in the last few months. I don't know why but that has just been on my heart. I just think about how hard it is for parents to go to church with a child who needs special attention. It's hard to just drop them off in Sunday school or the nursery if the workers aren't prepared but it's even harder to take them to church with you. And I feel like those parents are the ones who probably need some quiet worship time the most. I'm glad your church is working on it!
P.S. Pierce is pretty nice looking when he's opening a door for you in hawaii and sitting one table over too! :-)
Sounds like ya'll had a great, but busy weekend! :) I hope you do have a more relaxing week! :)
Okay, the pedicure sounds marvelous! Wax on your legs...ahhh...I'm imagining how that must feel right now.
You look so pretty in the picture of you and your bf from high school! Love girls nights!!!!
Okay that is SOOOO funny about you not liking the color of your toes. I had a pedicure this weekend, too, and picked a dark color (what I would call a "fall" color...maybe I'm getting tired of the heat?!) which I did not end up liking. When Alise saw my toes, she said, "Mommie, I don't like your toes! They're not pink(they usually are)!" I was like, "WHELL, Missy!" Anyway, I thought it was neat that our stories were nearly the same! Sounds like you had a great weekend!
I started laughing thinking about you walking around the mall with those slippery feet! :) You needed a pedicure with all your craziness going on.
Don't you just HATE waiting in the doctor's office???? That is the worst...especially while trying to keep a child entertained!
At least you got to have a girl's night! That always makes the weekend fun. I want to see Mama Mia. I heard it was really cute!
I will be praying for you as you try to decide what to do in the special needs ministry! I know God will use you somewhere that is perfectly suited to you!
Busy week! Your girls night out sounds like such a great idea... I need to get one started.
You have such a sweet, willing heart for your church!
You look so pretty on your girls night out!
I'll be praying about your church starting a special needs ministry. Ours has just gotten one going and it has already been such a blessing to all of those involved!
Ooh, I have so much to say!! First, I LOVE a good pedicure. I would go all the time if I could. Second, your girls night looks like so much fun!! Third, I want to see Mama Mia so badly! But, most importantly, I have no idea why this never occurred to me before, but we have a well-organized and fairly large special needs ministry at our church. Our senior pastor's son Isaac also has autism, and his mom is passionate about it. She has started a wonderful special needs ministry at our church. In fact, she just got back from a special needs ministry conference in Indiana. Anyway, if you think it would be helpful at all, I'm sure I could put you in touch with her. Just let me know!!
I'm dying to see Mama Mia!
Man, I cannot even imagine not having AC in the South...
And forgive me for laughing at the image of you walking around the mall trying to keep sandals on your feet!
You definitely deserve the pedicure! I need one, myself!
You look so pretty in your picture- you are gorgeous!
And I totally see the need and think you would do a good job for the special needs ministry. You should check out my friend Melissa's blog www.thehighercall.blogspot.com- she just started one at her church!
I really feel in my heart that this is so important!
I'm praying for you and your family!
Love ya!
So glad you had a great weekend! Friends are so fun! And you went to see Mamma Mia! I hope you really liked it! Evan looks so cute in that picture looking at the fish! Gymbucks have to be great! Oh and about that pedicure, I am glad you enjoyed it, but sorry you had to go to the mall afterwards! EEK!
